WEEK 4
HANUM: According to Schemerhorn, Hunt & Osborn (2003) – creativity is
a unique development and answer/response to expected problems whereas the
meaning of innovation based on Kinicki& Williams (2003) is that, it is an
approach towards creating a new product, process or service in an improved
manner and not resting on laurels. I have also learnt that there are four
stages to creative process and also the attributes of creative individuals.
Although I am not an entrepreneur but I have to agree that being creative and
unique can make a business go far in the business industry. This is due to the
fact that humans are born with different hobbies and interests hence; entrepreneurs
can take advantage of this fact and create their own business opportunities.
There are also a lot of techniques to generate creative and innovative ideas
that can be implemented before starting a business but one must be aware of the
obstacles and hindrances to creativity and innovativeness as this can sometimes
limit the business from expanding.
FARAH:
In this week, I learnt what is creativity and what is creativity
and what is innovation. It a common mistake to think that both mean the same
but actually according to Schemerhorn, Hunt & Osborn (2003) creativity is a
unique development and answer to expected problems meanwhile innovation is an
approach towards creating a new product, process or service in an improved
manner not resting on laurels according to Kinicki& Williams (2003).
Creativity and innovation is key in order to become a succesfulentreprenuer
although not all organisations welcome creativity and innovation. There are
several obstacles that deter creativity and innovativeness but with willpower
and focus it can be achieved. Without innovation, the world will not have iPads
and tablets.
AFIQAH:
In today’s class, we learned how to differentiate between creativity and
innovation. According to Schemerhorn, Hunt and Osborn (2003), creativitiy is a
unique development and answer or response to expected problems while innovation
is an approach towards creating a new product, process or service in an
improved manner and not resting on laurels (Kinicki and Williams, 2003). There
are four stages to the creative process. The first stage is through the
assimilation of knowledge via readings, discussions, seminars, workshops to create
new products or services. The second and the third stage are through
incubator and idea while the fourth
stage is through assessment and implementation (Kuratko and Hodgetts, 2004). Creativity
and innovation is very important in entrepreneurship and can lead to a
successful business. Nevertheless, there still have obstacles and hindrances to
creativity and innovativeness. Other organizations might stop people from
trying new ideas, limited resources, afraid to try, fear of making mistakes and
lack of confidence are some of the obstacles. However, if a person is so
determined in becoming an entrepreneur, he/she surely can overcome these
obstacles. As the saying goes, if there’s a will, there’s a way.
